Teen Friendly League (TFL): Winter Cheer & Clinic

Who are we?

This league invites any recreational players aged 12yr to 18yr to come out on a weekly basis to curl. Manotick curling club is offering this teen league for a second year.
Who is it for?
-High School students who have experienced curling through the phys-ed program.
- enrolled in a curling program at a local club;
- don't have a team and are looking to play with other teen curlers;
- want to play an extra game during the week;
- desire ice experience at another club outside of your regular club.

What's the cost? $80 for the season that's $3.81/game - wow!

Winter Cheer & Clinic - This Wed. Dec12th

What's happening this week (Dec 12th) at TFL?

1. Pre-game 30minute clinic is being offered this week at 4pm. Coach Kent will be at the club to give pointers to any curler who would like some feedback on any part of their delivery, release or any general questions about the game. Just show up ready to step onto the ice at 4pm sharp - Takes place on SHEET 1.

2. Winter Cheer - Parents & fans come in for some munchies, apple cider & hot chocolate

3. Photos for OVCA will be taken by Coach Kent during the game which will be sent to the OVCA for their website - bring your best smile!

4. Winter shootout is going to take place on the sheets that finish their 4 ends BEFORE 5.45pm. What's the target? Prize packs of movie tickets & snacks.

Food for thought: The next mix up for teams is after January 9th game - please let Deb know before this date, if;

you would like to stay in your current team format

have your name tossed back into the hat

How can I play 5 ends in 90mins?

These “unwritten laws” give a
curler a feeling of well-being, and help keep the game moving.
a.. Don't be LATE. Be ready to step on the ice and begin play at the scheduled time. If you are late you are holding up seven other people. Delays can be very annoying and upsetting to both your opponents and your own team. If you will be late or cannot play at all, be sure to advise your skip as soon as possible so he or she can take appropriate action.
b.. When you are the skip and your team is unable to start a game as scheduled, advise the convenor and the skip of the opposing team as soon as possible. Hard feelings can be created if one team shows up to play a game and the other team fails to show.
c.. Before the start of the game, greet each member of the other team with a hearty handshake, tell them your name and wish them "Good Curling"
d.. Once the game has started be sure to never disturb a curler in the hack. Keep your distance, be silent and motionless.
e.. Be ready to take your position in the hack as soon as your opponent has delivered their rock. Do not wait until their shot is finished. This helps speed up the game.
f.. Do not set up or position your opponent’s rocks during play. Always set up your skip’s rock while waiting for him or her to make their way from the other end when it is their turn.
g.. When the end is complete, the lead of the team that scored and is shooting first SHOULD NOT help clear rocks but should immediately get ready to deliver the first stone of the
next end.
h.. Do not walk, run or slide across the ice when a player is in the hack.
i.. Keep alert and pay attention to every shot by
both teams.
j.. Do not gather around the house or hack when a rival is preparing to shoot. Front end players should position themselves between the hog lines along the sidelines - remain
motionless & silent.
k.. A skip or vice standing behind the house should keep perfectly still and avoid doing anything that might disturb the concentration of the player in the hack.
l.. Be quick to compliment a good shot by either team. A curler should never pass an adverse remark about a poor shot or smile at an opponent’s misfortune.
m.. At the end of the game, win or lose, give each of your opponents a hearty handshake, thank them for the game
